Orthodontist Dr. Susan Korch in Hershey, PA

For more than 27 years, I have found it incredibly fulfilling to support patients as they improve their smiles and confidence through treatment. Having worn both braces and clear aligners myself, and as the mom of two boys who were also my patients, I understand the experience from many perspectives as a doctor, a patient, and a parent.

One of the most rewarding parts of being an orthodontist is watching my patients grow and gain confidence. It is especially meaningful to now be treating the children of former patients, even if it occasionally reminds me how long I have been doing this.

I feel fortunate to care for so many wonderful patients and families in our community!

Education

My formal education began at the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned my Bachelor of Science and later my Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the School of Dental Medicine.

Following dental school, I completed a three-year orthodontic residency at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, earning my Certificate of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and Master of Science in Oral Biology.

Continuing Education

Providing my patients with the latest advances in technology and delivering the highest quality of care is very important to me. In recent years, I completed the two year Pitts Masters Continuum/Mini Residency, an advanced continuing education program focused on modern orthodontic techniques that support efficient treatment and beautiful esthetic smile results. I regularly attend continuing education courses and remain active in several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, The Middle Atlantic and PA Association of Orthodontists, and the Harrisburg Area Dental Society.

As a small business owner, I am a member of the Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO), representing healthcare. Meeting regularly with accomplished women business owners from across the region provides valuable insight and perspective in leading my practice.

Commitment to Innovation

My commitment to staying current with advances in orthodontics is reflected in the technology and techniques used in our practice. Korch Orthodontics was among the first offices in the area to adopt:

  • Digital scanning for impression-free treatment
  • 3D low-dose cone beam imaging for precise diagnosis
  • Computer-guided indirect bonding for precise bracket placement
  • Korch Cam digital treatment monitoring
  • In-house 3D printing and tooth movement software for custom aligners
  • Treatment of adult patients with Botox® , Xeomin, and Daxxify, for both therapeutic TMJ benefits and facial esthetics (certified by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics)

In the Community

Since moving to the Harrisburg area in 1998, I have felt fortunate to be part of such a caring and supportive community. I was honored to be recognized as a 2017 Woman of Influence by the Central Penn Business Journal and continue to support causes that help families in our area.

Our practice is proud to support local organizations that care for families and strengthen our community, including the Hershey Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, New Hope Ministries, Lourdeshouse, Morningstar Clinics, Catholic Charities, Cocoa Packs, and Dress for Success. We also enjoy supporting many of our patients’ educational, arts, and athletic programs and events throughout the community.

During the holidays, our office hosts annual food and toy drives, and on weekends I serve as a lector at my church.

At Home

I met my husband, Dr. Thomas Appleby, a general dentist in Carlisle, while we were both in dental school. Together we have been incredibly blessed with a wonderful family, including our sons, Aidan and Andrew.

Being a mom to my two boys is one of the greatest joys in my life. I treasure the time we spend together with both our immediate and extended family, along with our kitties, Phoebe and Nigel, and our dog, Minka.

Leisure Time

Outside the office, I enjoy vinyasa yoga, Peloton workouts, music, theatre, and art. I also love to travel, and when I’m home, I especially enjoy spending time with my family and my pets.
